Van Allen Hospital was established in 1913 by a group of Christian missionaries to be a place where people could receive quality medical attention in a picturesque setting in Kodaikanal, Tamilnadu, India. While a great deal has changed in health care and medical technology, the hospital is still a place of compassionate care that would make our founders proud. Building upon our 100- year foundation, we continue, in the spirit of Christian service to provide the best medical services to all who walk through our doors. Kodaikanal is located at about 7000 ft altitude in the Western Ghats in the southern part of India. Kodaikanal with its surrounding villages has a population of about 200,000. Kodaikanal also attracts nearly 4 million tourists each year. Van Allen treats about 7500 outpatients per year with the number increasing during the summer months due to the influx of the tourists. Van Allen continues to be a source of healing and hope both for the Kodai community and its visitors. And with the Lords blessing, we are preparing to expand and reach out to the needs of an even larger group of people.
